Today we’re looking at pixies, a type of trooping faery which look just like the little folk you might see in children’s picture books. Pixies are often described as having res hair, turned-up noses and pointed ears, dressing in green and wearing pointed caps.
They are generally good-natured towards humans and helpful around the home, particularly to those who are poor or struggling. Note that if you have a helpful pixie around the home, make sure to reward them with a bowl of cream or harvest apples and not new clothes. Otherwise your home-helper might find themselves compelled to leave…
It’s important to make sure you don’t get too complacent, too, because if they consider you lazy, pixies can turn to mischief, moving objects around when you’re not looking or riding your horses overnight until they are exhausted and in a lather in the morning.
More malevolent pixies might even do the same with weary travellers, leading them in circles until they have completely lost their bearings; when they are said to have become “pixie-led”.
The only way to free yourself from a pixie enchantment is to wear your jacket inside out – so bear it in mind if you find yourself lost in the woods and unable to keep from dancing…
